Isn’t it wonderful how children have been loving the stories by Roald Dahl for years and years and years? That is because he wrote the most fantastical stories~ always getting his characters both in and out of trouble at every turn.
What’s more amazing is the fact that he seemed to delight in conjuring up these prickly, out of sorts people who do not fit into the world around them but who somehow have a goodness inside them, and once we figure that out, we become their undying fans to the end of the story, and beyond. Well, that is the truth for some of these adult characters.
However, the real truth is, the majority of these pricklies, are found to be completely bereft of any goodness at all. So, how does it go for them? Dahl gives them a wide berth to get on with their machinations and then he methodically begins his campaign to bring them to their rightful end, with much delight I might add. And the reader is right there beside him cheering him on.
He is the master at giving the evil doers their comeuppance. The readers wouldn’t have it any other way. They love the way the he spins and weaves his tales.
It turns out that Mr. Dahl experienced a number of instructors and/or authority figures growing up who got right in his craw but
as deft as he was, he knew how to handle them.
People have been buying his books forever. He has sold over 300 million books worldwide. Here is a short list of children’s favorites. Give them to your children. Enjoy them.
